September 25, 2013
NEW YORK, September 25, 2013– Channel 2 WSB-TV Atlanta received the Ad Council’s Silver Bell Award last week at TVB’s Forward Conference—an annual event for local TV broadcast leaders. Every year the Silver Bell Award is presented to one television station that exemplifies exceptional support and leadership in disseminating Ad Council public service messages.
The Ad Council, a national non-profit organization, is the largest producer of public service advertising (PSAs) in the United States. Through partnerships with non-profit organizations and federal government agencies, the Ad Council works to stimulate action on public issues through PSAs and innovative communications programs. All Ad Council PSAs are aired and run in donated time and space.
The Silver Bell Award was presented to WSB-TV for its commitment to airing pro bono public service advertising on its airwaves for a variety of social issues, including Digital Literacy, Reading, High School Dropout Prevention and Emergency Preparedness. WSB-TV was noted for its particular support of Project Roadblock, the partnership between the TVB and the Ad Council and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) designed to prevent drunk and buzzed driving. In addition to running TV spots, WSB-TV has also run digital web banners and online streaming PSAs from its website.
“The Ad Council relies on the generosity of the media to help deliver our public service campaigns to audiences throughout the country,” said Beth Ellard, the Ad Council’s Executive Vice President, Media. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize WSB-TV as an outstanding partner that has helped us reach people throughout Atlanta and beyond with messages that are having a significant positive impact on their community.”
“At Channel 2 we aim to inform and strengthen our community every day. We value the PSAs provided by the Ad Council and its many worthy partners,” said Tim McVay, Vice President and General Manager for WSB-TV. “We plan to continue our work together so that we can continue to provide consistent, high-quality public service messages to our audience.”
