Energy Efficiency
Overview
In a typical U.S. home, appliances and electronics are responsible for up to 20 percent of the household energy bill.
New PSAs released in 2011 encourage homeowners to save energy by taking actions around the home. The PSAs offer practical ideas for reducing household energy consumption, and saving money in the process. Homeowners who shift their thermostat 10 - 15 degrees for eight hours each day can save 10% annually on cooling and heating bills.
Lighting is another area for energy and money savings. Homeowners who replace 15 incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) or LEDs could save about $50 annually. ENERGY STAR qualified LEDs use 70- 75% as much energy as traditional incandescent bulbs, plus LEDs last up to 25 times longer.
