What is Weigel Broadcasting’s strategy as it pertains to public service advertising?
We have made a substantial commitment to air both locally produced PSAs for a diverse variety of large and small non-profit
organizations based in each of our markets, as well as schedule national campaigns of significance that are important for
our viewers. We set aside time within all day parts for these announcements and target their scheduling to the demographic
groups we believe to be viewing the programming in which they appear.
How does the Ad Council help augment Weigel Broadcasting’s community outreach efforts?
We know that materials supplied by the Ad Council are not only well-produced, complete campaigns, but the organizations
have been well-researched, selected and vetted.
What issues do you think deserve national focus?
Education is key as it is the fundamental solution to many problems facing our country.Environmental consciousness, civility and tolerance, as well as
volunteerism and individual responsibility and participation in our democracy are additional concerns we like to address through these messages.
Is Weigel Broadcasting involved in any unique public service projects?
We produce one of, if not the only, daily educational children’s program on the local station level. “Green Screen Adventures” recently won The Service
To America Award for Children’s Television from the NAB. We are also sponsors of periodic community events including hunger awareness and health
oriented events.
What would you like to share with others in the media about the value of making a strong and continuing commitment to public service?
In a world of hundreds of viewing choices, being involved in local community initiatives is more important than ever. They allow you to differentiate your
product from the crowd and touch your viewers with a meaningful message. Of course, it’s good business too.
